Importance of Drainage System in Building Design
The Old Pathological Institute founded in 1906 (nowadays the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences), is the first purpose-built public health and medical laboratory to control Plaque outbreak in 1894. Modern building facilities generally include electrical installation; fire protection measures; water supply and drainage systems etc. In 2003, SARS killed almost 300 people in Hong Kong with the center of infection coming from Block E of Amoy Garden. Investigation indicated that the drainage system was a key for the virus spread. Why did it happen?
